× Hear the story of creation from an African perspective as Darius Milhaud introduces jazz harmonies into his popular La création du monde. tonight's trumpet soloist Dean Jones is joined by the Berkeley High School Jazz Combo in Gunther Schuller's Journey into Jazz, where the composer incorporates a concept similar to Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf to introduce us to jazz. Mr. Jones, a member of the SF Jazz Collective, performs Bernd alois Zimmermann's Trumpet Concerto, based on the American spiritual "Nobody Knows de Trouble I See". George Gershwin's jazz-influenced An American in Paris concludes the program.
